What does mediation involve?

Mediation is a voluntary process to help you and your partner resolve issues arising from the breakdown of your relationship; mediation is an excellent way to resolve matters relating to child contact and financial separation.

During mediation Catherine encourages positive discussions aimed at reaching an amicable settlement; Catherine will act as a neutral third party and will work to encourage positive discussions between the parties.

Catherine’s involvement will allow you to have control over the outcome; this is useful when there is a need to maintain an ongoing family relationship.

Initially Catherine will hold separate MIAMS meeting with both you and your former partner to discuss the process and what you can expect. If Catherine decides mediation is suitable, then a joint meeting will be held. If mediation is the best course of action, but you do not want to be in a joint meeting, another mediator can be involved, for separate co-meetings if that is more appropriate.
