Legal Aid is now known as Public Funding. The Public Funding scheme is administered by the Legal Services Commission (formerly the Legal Aid Board). Not everyone qualifies for Public Funding and in order to do so you have to show that you are financially eligible and that you have a valid case.

Eligibility for Public Funding is discussed at the first meeting with one of our Solicitors so that the financial implications of any case are highlighted at an initial stage.

If you are in receipt of Income Support then you are likely to be entitled to Public Funding without contribution. If you are working, own your home and have savings then it may still be possible to qualify for Public Funding, although it is likely that you will have to pay a contribution towards any legal costs incurred. Our staff will be able to provide the relevant application forms for Public Funding and assist you in completing them.

In calculating your contribution, the Legal Services Commission take into account such matters as housing costs and childcare costs. The allowances change regularly, but we will be able to advise you as to the up-to-date allowances when calculating whether or not you are entitled to Public Funding.

Passmores Solicitors has a franchised seal of approval awarded by the Legal Services Commission. This demonstrates our strong commitment to providing clients with a service of high quality.

Our franchises enable us to advise in matrimonial and childcare disputes.

Under the terms of our franchise we have a duty to keep you informed about who is dealing with your case, update you on progress and tell you how long a case is likely to take. We also keep you informed as to how much you may have to pay towards the cost of your case. The Legal Services Commission carry out an annual audit to ensure that we continue to meet the high standards required to operate the franchise.

When calling at our Barry offices to discuss your entitlement to Public Funding, please bring with you proof of any state benefit that you are receiving and an up-to-date wage slip if you are currently in employment.
