| The setting up of tribunals
to deal with statemented children and the greater awareness of the need
to identify at an early stage problems which may affect children's education
in the long term have resulted in a far greater need for parents to be aware
of their rights against Education Authorities and Schools. Education law is a relatively new subject for all concerned and it is important that professional help is obtained at an early stage in all issues relating to disputes over children's education. Three of the partners of our firm share an interest on advising clients in educational matters. Two of our partners are, or have been, governors of local schools and for many years our Mr Hughes was Chairman of Governors. |

| It is important to have an understanding of the issues involved where a child has special educational needs and it is also important to understand what issues an expert instructed by a parent needs to address when dealing with the appeals system. The Education Acts are complicated and the partners in our practice work as a team discussing cases together to ensure that the best course of action is taken and the individual experiences shared. The practice continues to develop its links with the various charities involved in issues relating to children and education and an initial free interview helps parents to understand the issues involved before making a decision as to what steps they need to take. Glyn Hughes and Catherine Roblin, two of the partners concerned, are both part time chairmen of the Appeals Service, regularly dealing with issues relating to children with learning and behavioural problems and they are also both members of the Law Society's Childcare Panel and are able to represent children. Mental health problems can also be relevant in educational matters and Mr Hughes is a member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. The combined experience of the three partners concerned in educational matters will be brought to bear in any matter in which we are instructed and taking the early opportunity to discuss a problem with us can sometimes lead to an early resolution of a problem, which can only be in the best interest of a child.
